Das Game Fortnite von Epic Games stand lange Zeit nur als direkter Download über die eigene Website zur Verfügung. Das heißt, um das Spiel auf deinem Android Phone zu installieren (sofern dies denn möglich war/ist) musste der Download aus externen Quellen zugelassen werden. Das hat sich nun geändert – Fortnite ist ab sofort im Play Store verfügbar.
Fortnite jetzt im Play Store zum Download verfügbar
Das beliebte und gehypte Game Fortnite wurde erstmals im August 2018 im Samsung Galaxy App Store für Android Phones/Samsung Phones veröffentlicht. Anschließend war der Download nur direkt über die Website von Epic Games möglich. Auf einen Download über den Play Store wurde verzichtet, um Google nicht an den Einnahmen des Games zu beteiligen, beziehungsweise die 30% Umsatzbeteiligung (welche Epic Games aber auch an Apple für den Vertrieb des Games im Apps Store zahlt) nicht zahlen zu müssen. Es wurde ein extra Fortnite Installer geschaffen, welcher über Drittanbieter auf die Android Phones geladen werden musste. Doch nach dem Scan mit Google Play Protect (welches ja mittlerweile auch bei Apps aus unbekannten Quellen greift) wurde hierbei eine große Sicherheitslücke entdeckt.
Anfang des Jahres wurde bekannt, dass Epic Games versucht hat sich von der 30% Umsatzbeteiligung zu befreiten, was von Google jedoch abgelehnt wurde. Nun ist man jedoch zu der Erkenntnis gekommen, Fortnite auch über den Play Store anzubieten, da Software, welche außerhalb des Play Stores heruntergeladen werden kann von Google blockiert beziehungsweise als Malware deklariert wird. Fortnite wird jedoch weiterhin über die Website erhältlich sein. Ebenfalls hofft man, dass Google in Zukunft seine Richtlinien überarbeitet, um allen Entwicklern eine Verteilung über den Play Store zu gleichen Richtlinien zu ermöglichen.

- Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings, Google public relations characterizing third party software sources as malware, and new efforts such as Google Play Protect to outright block software obtained outside the Google Play store.
- Because of this, we’ve launched Fortnite for Android on the Google Play Store. We’ll continue to operate the Epic Games App and Fortnite outside of Google Play, too.
- We hope that Google will revise its policies and business dealings in the near future, so that all developers are free to reach and engage in commerce with customers on Android and in the Play Store through open services, including payment services, that can compete on a level playing field.
